Oheka Castle
Almost exactly 100 years ago, investment banker, philanthropist, and patron of the arts Otto Hermann Kahn asked architects William Adams Delano and Chester Holmes Aldrich to create a country residence for him in Long Island, NY that was fit to host extravagant parties. They came up with the plans for and helped build the Oheka Castle, which is still being used to host weddings and other prestigious events to this day. Located on the highest point in Long Island, it looks like a European castle and would be the perfect place for you and your partner to take engagement or wedding photographs.
Why the Oheka Castle is Ideal for Wedding Photography
Inside the Oheka Castle, you’ll find 32 guest rooms and suites that were all designed to make those staying in them feel like they were living in the lap of luxury. You’ll also find a variety of other ornate rooms, like the stately library, that are filled from top to bottom with historic architecture. The castle features the Formal Gardens as well, which is an area that was thought up and created by the legendary landscape architects John Charles Olmsted and Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. It’s an incredible place for an engagement photographer or a wedding photographer to capture your finest moments.
The Oheka Castle has been recognized as one of the most majestic venues in both the country and the world in recent years. The castle is a member of Historic Hotels of America, which is a program established by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and Historic Hotels Worldwide. It has also earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places. But in keeping with the spirit of the legacy left behind by Otto Hermann Kahn himself, it’s still available to host special events, including engagement photo shoots and weddings.
